The Conscious and The Subconscious Mind

Studies of the conscious and the subconscious mind fascinate me. When you understand how each one works it will explain why things are the way that they are.  When you can get them to work in harmony, you can align with the Universal energy.

The conscious mind is your every day state of awareness.  It is referred to as your objective mind.  It receives information from your senses of sight, taste, smell, touch, feel and sound.  Your conscious mind does the reasoning.  This is where you find the ability to plan and where your logic and your imagination are.  Yet, your conscious mind cannot always find the solutions.

The subconscious mind is the subjective mind.  It is the huge storehouse of your memory.  I've read many times that it can be compared to a super computer.  It remembers every experience from your entire life.  It remembers everything that you ever did or said.  It sees without the use of the natural organs of vision.  It has all of the answers. The subconscious mind can do all of these amazing things, working for you 24 hours a day, but it cannot reason or logically think things out.

Throughout your life, if the subconscious mind was given wrong information, but you believed or perceived that the information was true, then it accepted it as true.  It was designed to protect you and to make you right.  It will use all of that stored information from past experiences and continuously remind you of them.  It will filter out any new thoughts that go beyond your beliefs. How many limiting thoughts or ideas have you believed were true?

Most of us never heard of the Law of Attraction as we grew up.  Many have lived their lives with fear, worry and stress.  We have been taught to judge people and situations.  By listening to others and listening to the media, many believe that this is how life is.  If the subconscious mind wants to make us right then what is it going to do?  It's going to keep bringing up reasons why we should be afraid, why we should worry and why we should judge.

Let me give you an example.  Let's say that you believe or believed at one time, that rich people are greedy. Since the subconscious mind is trying to protect you and make you right, it will attempt to stop you from being rich.  It will remind you of all the reasons that it will never happen for you.  It will filter out all of the possibilities and ideas that could actually work for you. Then it will remind you of anything that you may have believed in the past.  Things like, you aren't smart enough, you aren't creative enough and you don't have enough education.  It's trying to protect you.

This is why things are the way that they are. You can only manifest what you believe is possible.

What beliefs and information did your parents, grandparents and teachers tell you?  We can't blame them.  They did the best that they could, but most of your beliefs are theirs. Most of your beliefs don't even belong to you.

Here's something to think about.  What if you were raised in a totally different family, with a different religious background, in another part of the world?  Wouldn't your beliefs be quite a bit different?

The subconscious mind thinks that everything is fine, just the way that it is.  It also thinks that it's protecting you with your habits. Take eating too many sweets as an example.  You enjoy them, so it sees no reason to change.  It doesn't know that it may have an effect on your health in a negative way.  Remember the logic is in your conscious mind. This is why most New Year's resolutions fail. Our willpower can work for a while, but as soon as we lose focus and begin to weaken, our subconscious takes over again.

Unfortunately, 95% of our lives are controlled by the subconscious mind.  Having said that, if you're having a battle with your conscious mind at 5% control and your subconscious at 95% control, unless you're really focused, who do you think will win?  This is why you must pay attention and change those negative thoughts and beliefs.

One amazing fact is that although the subconscious seems to control things, your conscious mind is still the boss.  Beliefs can be changed. Unfortunately affirmations won't do it, unless you truly believe what you're saying. You can't lie to your subconscious.  Instead, DO something to show it that you no longer hold a certain belief. Take back the control and don't listen to it, because it will fight you.

It's also your subconscious mind that doesn't want you to awaken.

The Conscious and The Subconscious Mind-  Recent Reading

I've been reading "Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself" by Dr. Joe Dispenza.  If you want to know how the conscious and the subconscious minds work, read his book.  He explains exactly how everything works, in simple enough language that anyone can understand.

Most of us are so repetitious that we do exactly the same things, day after day.  We get out of the same side of the bed every morning.  We have the same routine getting ready for work.  We drive the same route to work every day.  We repeat the same thing so many times that the same circuits in our brain fire in the same pattern, over and over again.  We have actually become our environment.  Our brains have become hardwired to certain events and feelings and we're producing the same level of mind every single day.

In order to create, we must become greater than our circumstances.  All highly successful people have had visions of something greater than themselves. We have to stop living in survival mode and start living in the creator mode. This book is awesome if you want to understand how the conscious and subconscious minds really work.

Dr. Dispenza, asked one really great question.  Do you really believe that your thoughts create your reality?  If you do.......did you get up this morning and consciously create a new future?  Why not?
