The Conscious and The Subconscious Mind

Studies of the conscious and the subconscious mind fascinate me. When you understand how each one works it will explain why things are the way that they are.

The conscious mind is your every day state of awareness. It is referred to as your objective mind. It interprets information from your 5 senses. Your conscious mind does the reasoning and it uses logic. This is where you find the ability to plan. It can see the past and imagine the future. This is where your free will is. When left to it's own devices this is where the "monkey mind" is.

The subconscious mind is the subjective mind. It is the huge storehouse of your memory.  I've read many times that it can be compared to a super computer.  It remembers every experience from your entire life. It remembers everything that you ever did or said from this life and past lives. It operates from what has been imprinted on it. It sees without the use of the natural organs of vision. It only knows NOW. The subconscious mind can do amazing things, working for you 24 hours a day, but it cannot reason or logically think things out.

Throughout your life, if the subconscious mind was imprinted or given wrong information, but you believed or perceived that the information was true, then it accepted it as true.  It was designed to protect you and to make you right.  It will use all of that stored information that it now believes is true and continuously remind you of it.  It will filter out any new thoughts that go beyond your beliefs because it doesn't like change.

Most of us never heard of the Law of Attraction as we grew up.  Many have lived their lives with fear, worry, stress and judgement. Many of us believe that this is just how life is.  So...if the subconscious mind wants to make you right and it doesn't like change, then what is it going to do?  It's going to keep bringing up reasons why you should be afraid, why you should worry and why you should judge.

Let me give you an example.  Let's say that you believe or believed at one time, that rich people are greedy. Since the subconscious mind is trying to protect you and make you right, it will attempt to stop you from being rich.  It will remind you of all the reasons that it can't possibly happen. It will filter out all of the possibilities that could actually work for you and repeatedly remind you of those old, past imprints, that you once believed. It may bring up old beliefs of why you're not smart enough, you're not creative enough and you don't have enough education. This is how it tries to protect you.

This is why things are the way that they are. You can only manifest what you believe is possible. This is why our lives are so predictable.

What beliefs and information did your parents, grandparents and teachers tell you?  We can't blame them.  They did the best that they could, but most of your beliefs are theirs

Here's something to think about.  What if you were raised in a totally different family, with a different religious background, in another part of the world?  Wouldn't your beliefs be totally different? So then what is the truth?

It's also your subconscious mind that doesn't want you to awaken. Many people can't wait for the changes that ascension will bring. But guess what? You're still going to have your mind. An Ascended Master recently said that with ascension, if you don't learn to stop listening to your subconscious mind and begin to live from the heart, you're only going to add "another wing on the nut house". Sorry, I couldn't resist adding that. I was cracking up laughing when he said it.

The subconscious mind thinks that everything is fine, just the way that it is. This is why it's so difficult to break habits. You can try to change, but as soon as you lose focus, your subconscious mind will take over again. It's unfortunate, but 95% of our lives are controlled by the subconscious mind. We don't realize it, but most of the time we are just running on autopilot.

How many times have you driven to work and you don't even remember half of the trip?  That's because your on autopilot.

One amazing fact is that although the subconscious seems to control things, your conscious mind is still the boss. The subconscious doesn't know what's real or what's imagined. You must convince your subconscious that it has already happened. It's done with repetition.

"Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself" by Dr. Joe Dispenza, combines the fields of quantum physics, neuroscience, brain chemistry, biology and genetics to show you what is truly possible.

Most of us are so repetitious that we do exactly the same things, day after day. We get out of the same side of the bed every morning. We have the same routine getting ready for work.  We drive the same route to work every day.  We repeat the same thing so often that the same circuits in our brain fire in the same pattern. We release the same chemical responses and actually become our environment.  Our brains have become so hardwired to certain events and feelings that we're producing the same level of mind every single day.

This book is awesome if you want to understand all of this.

Dr. Dispenza, asked one really great question. If you really believe that your thoughts create your reality, then did you get up this morning and consciously create a new future?  Why not?
