Studies of the conscious and the subconscious mind fascinate me. When you understand how each one works it will explain why things are the way that they are.
The conscious mind is your every day state of awareness. It is referred to as your objective mind. It receives information from your senses of sight, taste, smell, touch, feel and sound. Your conscious mind does the reasoning. This is where you find the ability to plan and where your logic and your imagination are.
The subconscious mind is the subjective mind. It is the huge storehouse of your memory. I've read many times that it can be compared to a super computer. It remembers every experience from your entire life. It remembers everything that you ever did or said. It sees without the use of the natural organs of vision. It has all of the answers. The subconscious mind can do all of these amazing things, working for you 24 hours a day, but it cannot reason or logically think things out.
Throughout your life, if the subconscious mind was given wrong information, but you believed or perceived that the information was true, then it accepted it as true. It was designed to protect you and to make you right. It will use all of that stored information from past experiences and continuously remind you of them. It will filter out any new thoughts that go beyond your beliefs because it doesn't like change.
Most of us never heard of the Law of Attraction as we grew up. Many have lived their lives with fear, worry and stress, among other things. We've grown up with a lot of judgement. Many of us believe that this is just how life is. So...if the subconscious mind wants to make you right then what is it going to do? It's going to keep bringing up reasons why we should be afraid, why we should worry and why we should judge.
Let me give you an example. Let's say that you believe or believed at one time, that rich people are greedy. Since the subconscious mind is trying to protect you and make you right, it will attempt to stop you from being rich. It will remind you of all the reasons that it can't possibly happen. It will filter out all of the possibilities that could actually work for you. Then it will repeatedly remind you of anything that you believed in the past. Things like, you aren't smart enough, you aren't creative enough and you don't have enough education. This is how it tries to protect you.
This is why things are the way that they are. You can only manifest what you believe is possible. This is why our lives seem so predictable.
What beliefs and information did your parents, grandparents and teachers tell you? We can't blame them. They did the best that they could, but most of your beliefs are theirs.
Here's something to think about. What if you were raised in a totally different family, with a different religious background, in another part of the world? Wouldn't your beliefs be quite a bit different?
The subconscious mind thinks that everything is fine, just the way that it is. This is why it's so difficult to break habits. You can try to change, but as soon as you lose focus, your subconscious mind will take over again. It's unfortunate, but 95% of our lives are controlled by the subconscious mind. We don't realize it, but most of the time we are just running on autopilot.
How many times have you driven to work and you don't really remember half of the trip? That's because your on autopilot.
One amazing fact is that although the subconscious seems to control things, your conscious mind is still the boss. Beliefs can be changed, although it takes real focus and repetition. This is why affirmations won't always work, unless you truly believe what you're saying. You cannot lie to your subconscious. Instead, DO something to show it that you no longer hold a certain belief. Take back the control and don't listen to it, because it will fight you.
It's also your subconscious mind that doesn't want you to awaken.
I've been reading "Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself" by Dr. Joe Dispenza. It combines the fields of quantum physics, neuroscience, brain chemistry, biology and genetics to show you what is truly possible.
Most of us are so repetitious that we do exactly the same things, day after day. We get out of the same side of the bed every morning. We have the same routine getting ready for work. We drive the same route to work every day. We repeat the same thing so often that the same circuits in our brain fire in the same pattern. We release the same chemical responses and actually become our environment. Our brains have become so hardwired to certain events and feelings that we're producing the same level of mind every single day.
In order to create, we must become greater than our circumstances. All highly successful people have had visions of something greater than themselves. We have to stop living in survival mode and start living in the creator mode. This book is awesome if you want to understand how it all works.
Dr. Dispenza, asked one really great question. Do you really believe that your thoughts create your reality? If you do.......did you get up this morning and consciously create a new future? Why not?
